Thailand, this beautiful country with borders resembling the rough shape of an elephant’s head; a country with a pretty rich history and interesting geographic forms is located in the center of Southeast Asia. Officially called The Kingdom of Thailand, I would now call it Kingdom of Spas.
Thailand is formerly known as Siam and it’s populated by more than 75% with Thai people. Its citizens have always called this country Mueang Thai, and they say that “Thai” means “people” or simply “human being”. They have this phrase that they’re so proud of: “Land of the free”, because Thailand is the only country in Southeast Asia never colonized by Europeans.
I’ve just told you some things that I’ve learned about Thailand because we’ve recently been there and some other things I know are for example that the Indian culture has influenced Thailand a great deal and it is believed that Buddhism must’ve came from India in the time of Indian Emperor Ashoka.
Why do I tell you all of these things? Because I want to make a point and every little thing I mentioned has made Thailand very well known worldwide as “Land of smile” and “Kingdom of spas”.
It is said that Thailand is not as beautiful as Malaysia or Indonesia when it comes to natural scenery but it has its fair share of tropical forest. In our previous articles we talked mainly about the sea part, the Andaman Sea. We told you about the crystal blue waters, the great beaches, the amazing under water life and all the small and beautiful islands that you can enjoy at the fullest when being on your own boat or yacht. We only spent two days on land and we needed to find a place not far from Phuket. From our experience it’s not so hard to rapidly find a resort and spa in Thailand. I heard that the most special ones were built in the mountains of Chiang Mai, but like I said we needed one much closer to Phuket. In our research we liked the name of this Island, called Coconut.
Coconut Village Resort, the five stars resort and spa offered exactly what we needed after spending a week on a boat. Let me tell you about the spa area that has left some nice memories on us. On the day I choose to have an aromatherapy massage I have met a very nice team of professionals in the spa, starting with the ladies that were welcoming us with this flavoured wet towel. But there is somebody I would like to mention in my story.
My therapists name is Mae, she lives in Bangkok and she works at the spa in Coconut Village Resort. Mae is 35 years and says she is an old woman. “I have a dream that some day I will go see snow”, that’s something that made me realize that such a beautiful and simple thing for me like snow, can be so big for her. I liked Mae and I think you will like her too after reading just a few lines about her. Mae told me that she has learned English from the clients at the spa. “They were asking me questions and I was only smiling and saying yes, thank you. I felt it wasn’t the right thing to do, so I went to buy a dictionary and every time I remembered what a customer asked or told me, I looked in the book”. Mae is that kind of person who likes very much her work and always tries and does all of her best to improve. I still remember having this wonderful sensation of her hands releasing the tension of my muscles and leaving me with this sensation of relief and calm. I could so easily see that she just loves her job and this combined with the whole atmosphere of the spa, made me smile when my session was over. Thank you Mae!
I know the picture you see below doesn’t quite fit in our article but it is for Mae J
